Kuzey ışıkları belki de birçoğumuzun hayali. Doğanın bizlere sunduğu bu harika olayı görenler çok şanslı, görmeyenler ise göreceği günün hayalini kurarak çok heyecanlı.
Kuzey ışıkları güneşten koparak uzaya yayılan güneş rüzgarlarının ta kendisidir. Bu rüzgarlar dünyamıza ulaştığında da manyetik alanın başlangıcı olan kutup noktalarına doğru yönelirler. Bu sebeple kuzey ışıklarını görebilmek için kutup noktalarına yakın yerlere gitmemiz gerekir.
Işıkları görebileceğimiz yerlere bakacak olursak; İsveç, Norveç, Finlandiya, Rusya, Kanada, İzlanda, Faroe Adaları, İskoçya, Alaska ve Grönland bulunmakta. Tüm bu yerler arasında en fazla iglo veya cam teraslı eve sahip olan Finlandiya’dan bahsedeceğiz.
Eylül-Mart arası dönemde görülebilen bu ışıklar için birtakım zahmetlere katlanmamız ise kaçınılmaz. Bunların en başında da dondurucu soğuklar geliyor. Kimi zaman -30 derecelere kadar düşen bu olumsuz hava koşulu sayesinde kuzey ışıkları keyiften çok eziyete dönüşebiliyor.
